Hello Everyone,
How lucky are we? School Kit very kindly sent us a science kit that allowed us to investigate the process of making cheese.
First of all, we tasted different cheeses: Cheddar, Feta, Brie and Blue Vein (moldy cheese - yuk!). We completed a taste chart to cheese descriptive vocabulary that best represented what we had tried. Check out Simon's taste chart to see what he thought of each cheese.
After that we followed instructions to make Paneer cheese. This was simple and needed only milk and lemon juice to create curds. Once the curds (lumpy globs) had separated from the whey (the liquid left behind) we strained the whey to leave the curds and then pressed if using plates and a brick. This then got rid of any remaining liquid so that once refrigerated, we had cheese.
We got to taste the Paneer and most of us liked it - so we filled out our final chart on the taste test. Finally, we used our taste chart to compile a guide for Countdown customers to help them choose different cheeses.

We had great fun tasting, making and evaluating cheese. If you want to see more, check out our term 2 photo gallery here! You can also find our tasks and work around this cool experience on our class site here.

See you next time...
