Vodafone Warriors Take Over!!

Howdy Bloggers,

What a busy week we've had in Parekowhai class. An enormous truck, with the Warriors logo plastered on it, came to visit the school. When it was unfolded, it became a mobile classroom. Room 6 were the first class out of the seniors to visit the truck. We went in on the Wednesday and Friday - 2 very wet days!

It was a Tu Kaha programme led by 2 fabulous people called Matua Tom - who is actually our very own Yazmine's uncle - and Miss Jess. They talked to us and did some awesome activities with our class around Hauora - which is our wellbeing. Check out some of our collaborative pieces of writing we did about what we learned.

Plug Alert!! Heaps of photos were taken on the 2 days that we were learning in the truck. Don't forget you can check out our 'photo gallery' here to see what other wonderful learning we do!

That's all for now. 'Til next time - keep blogging!

Bully Free NZ!

Hi guys.

Friday 14th May the whole of Hay Park turned pink to make a stand against bullying. The school council did a fantastic job of making sure that everybody had something pink so some people have bows and ribbons!

We spent the week leading up to it learning about bullying and the things we can do to prevent it. In Room 6, we're pretty good at being good friends and understand what makes a good friend. In our reading tasks we also spent some time looking at what bullying actually is. Did you know there are more than one ways someone could bully. Check out Kanishka's digital poster which shares the different types:

Hope you enjoy! Happy pink day!

See you next time!

Supermarket Sweep!

Buenos Dias Blog Fanatics,

So this week Parekowhai Class went on a visit to New World Supermarket. Prior to our visit we had the lovely Adele visit us from Heart Foundation NZ to talk to us about our food choices. We didn't realise just how much sugar is in lots of our favourite soft drinks! This photo shows just how bad it really is:

Adele also taught us the importance of being able to read the labels on food packaging so that we can make healthy choices. This helped prepare us for our visit to New World in Mount Roskill where we went round and compared some of the different food groups on show. We can now make healthy choices. Take a look at our photos to see how we got on.

It was so much fun - we even got a free lunch box to remind us what healthy choices we can make when preparing our lunch. Miss Berry was even given a $60 voucher so that we can plan and make our own healthy shared lunch. Watch this space to see what we decide to make...

That's all for now!
