Term 3, Week 1

Hola Blogger Fanatics,

It's hard to believe that the first week of Term 3 has ended. The year certainly is flying by.

This term is a HUGE one for our school, Hay Park, because we are preparing for our big production which is based on the awesome book by Maurice Sendak: Where the Wild Things are. Have you heard of it?

So for our first week we have immersed ourselves in the story. Check out the Where the Wild Things Are page on our class site. The link is here. These were some of the tasks we have been working on this week.

One of our focuses was practicing reading with expression. Here is the fantastic Fatima reading the story with enthusiasm and expression:

Have a little look at the student individual blogs to see some more videos of the story being read and don't forget to drop a comment letting us know what you think!

See you next time!

My Bad Habits!

Buenos Dias!

This week Room 6 have been talking about their bad habits. We would love to share with you some of our bad habits! Make sure that you check out all of the children's blogs to find out what their individual bad habits are. Many of them share the same bad habit. Can you guess what it is?

Here is Miss Berry's bad habit:

Today I want to share with you all about my bad habits. Everybody has a bad habit but not everybody has the same ones. Bad habits are something you have no control over and you struggle to stop doing even if you are told not to. They are often things you sometimes do without thinking. Some people pick their nose (and eat it) while others simply eat too much chocolate. I have many bad habits but my worst habit has got to be biting my fingernails.

Firstly, biting your nails is one of the most gross habits in the world. Why? Think about what you do with your hands everyday… You use them for everything: typing on your chromebook, opening doors, eating your lunch and even wiping your bum! Bacteria likes to fester underneath fingernails because they are a warm, safe place to breed. When I put my fingers in my mouth and begin to chew at my poor fingernails, I am also eating the germs - including poo particles. Disgusting! It can also ruin your teeth as it can wear away at the enamel and mean your teeth are chipped.

I therefore think it’s time to quit the habit! Has anyone managed to break this habit? Maybe you can give me some tips!

See you later! :)

World’s Best Pancakes

Good Afternoon Bloggers,

We have finally reached the end of term and holidays are underway. Over the next 2 weeks I will be blogging about what I’m up to in order to keep in contact with my students in Room 6 and give them some ideas about what they can blog.

So it’s day one of the holidays and I decided to do something I can’t usually do at 11.30am on a Monday... Pancakes! I think I have found the best recipe to make these light, fluffy circles of mouthwatering delight.

This is what they looked like before I devoured them...

Topped with marvelous maple syrup, wicked whipped cream and a picturesque view of the Manukau Harbour. A glorious start to the holidays - wouldn't you say?

I think they're the world's best pancakes - but are they?

If you have enjoyed reading my blog posts why not leave me a comment and give me some cooking suggestions or check out my students blogs to see what they're up to. They can also found on this page.

That's all for now.

See ya!

Digital Diagram of the Unsinkable Titanic

Kia Ora World,

Today the task was to share some work that I am really proud of. In class, I have been learning a lot about the ship called the Titanic which sailed from Southampton to New York. I have chosen my DLO a diagram of the Titanic. I created this on Google Drawing and explored all the different shape tools using them to create what the Titanic looked like before it sank.

I am proud to present this work because I think my model of the Titanic looks very similar to the real ship. I didn't really know how to use Google Drawing before doing this and now I can use it.

Have you ever used Google Drawing before? What did you do?

Have you seen the Titanic before? Let me know!

See you next time.

My Dog Sitting Adventures with Benji

Guten Tag,

Meet Benji.

Benji is my friend Jo's beautiful, white fluff ball. He is a friendly, playful dog and I had the pleasure of dog sitting for him on Saturday. My job was to make sure that Benji was fed, watered and walked so I took him on an adventure to Cornwall Park in Auckland.

Benji is quite an energetic dog so he ended up taking me for the walk instead. He likes to walk quickly and every time he sees another dog he pauses and tries to sniff their bottom. Eew!

At the end of the walk, we were both exhausted so we went back home. Benji had some water and gobbled up all of his dog biscuits. A little bit later on, I found him like this:

I was really sad when Jo came back and I had to say bye to Benji. Hopefully I will see him again very soon.

Do you have any pets that you look after? Let me know!

Aboriginal Inspired Artwork

Hi,

Miss Berry here. Today I want to help my class improve their blogging skills and we have been working on lots of aboriginal inspired artwork that we want to show off. This is my model, please have a look at the students individual blogs for their wonderful work.

On Thursday 28th June it was Culture Day at Hay Park and we all wore our stunning cultural clothing and had the opportunity to share some cultural work with the whole school in our cultural assembly. We looked at Aboriginal Australia as our culture and created some cool artwork.

Here is my evaluation which shows how I did it and how I thought it went:

Feel free to comment, leave feedback and give me some suggestions on maybe what I could do next time.
